Bernardino di Luino
A false documentary inspired by Piero Chiara’s “Il Piatto piange”, in which the spirit of the province, suspended between the impossibility of leaving and the impossibility of staying, faces the drama of when it was the Italians who emigrated. Because perhaps we have forgotten when we were migrants, we have erased that memory. Yet since 1860 more than 30 million Italians have left. From ’46 to ’68 two million arrived in Switzerland alone. We lived in the shacks, on the outskirts of the cities, near the construction sites, away from the bourgeois neighborhoods. When we were the migrants, there was someone who wanted to chase us away, because “the Swiss first”.
